He seemed very fierce and obviously hated the idea of 'rich' passengers on their working ship. At least I thought he did, until the barbecue evening, when he was charm itself. And he understood that no-one had warned me about the 'loo'. The first Engineer and the Captain said that it was ridiculous anyway, because the ship produced enough fresh water to flush 1,000 toilets a day, as well as wash down the entire ship, but, at the moment of design, vacuum toilets were called for...

When I came back aboard for the return journey, he proudly accompanied me to my chambers to show me the 'home cinema' that he had installed, after the VHS player had gone on the blink during the outward journey, leaving me with 'only' 200 DVDs to chose from...
